In regards to seeing the band play at a public venue

In regards to coming to see us play live...

The first thing that sets my band apart from every other bands in Sydney is our versatility. We cover so many different styles and genres of music. However, due to the nature of public gigs you will never see this facet of the band. A venue will hire a band to play in one specific style to set a pre-defined ambience that meets with that venue's demographic/clientele, for example, The Opera Bar.

The second thing that sets my band apart from every other band in Sydney is how we unfold the intensity of what we play over a five or six hour time frame. Typically, we start out playing in our roving acoustic format. This generally fits in perfectly with pre-dinner drinks, as it's never too loud, yet it's quirky and unusual, so it creates a great ambience without intruding on guests conversations. Ususally at Sergeants Mess, we start out in the bar area.

Typically, we play throughout dinner, but keeping it mellow. At this point we may increase the intensity a small amount. I use the visual cue of watching if people have to lean across a table to talk to each other. If this is the case then we turn down. During these early stages, despite playing softly, I am working on establishing a great relationship with audience.

When we get to dancing, it  all comes  down to playing the right song at the right time. If the band goes too hard too early, guests will be driven off the dance floor. Once again, it's all about increments, and slowly increasing the intensity over a period of time. (This is another aspect the band is famous for).

If you come and see me performing at a public gig, you will miss all of the above. You really need to see the band's performance unfold over five or six hours to appreciate the positive effect we have on making your function extraordinary and completely memorable. This is what we specialise in.

So...

Because of this, I have eight You Tube clips on the “video” page of my website. These have all been filmed live on gigs (functions). There is no editing (except for one), so it's like standing in the room while the band is performing. Typically, we would play the whole range of styles (captured in these eight clips) all at the one function.
